The following is the written version of a talk I recently gave for the Illinois State University/Illinois Wesleyan History Symposium. It is my attempt to extend research from my first book, “Education and the Cold War: The Battle for the American School,” to my next project, which is to be an examination of the culture wars, so-called, of the Reagan era.
